The AAA Mega Championship, also known as the Mega Campeonato AAA or AAA World Heavyweight Championship, was established on September 16, 2007, when Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide created the title through a single-elimination Torneo Campeón de Campeones (Champion of Champions Tournament) that unified four existing titles — the IWC World Heavyweight Championship, the GPCW SUPER-X Monster Championship, the Mexican National Heavyweight Championship, and the UWA World Light Heavyweight Championship — with El Mesías becoming its inaugural champion.
