  • The Big Gold Belt design — the iconic three-plated centerpiece of the WCW Heavyweight Championship — was originally crafted in 1985 by Nevada silversmith Charles Crumrine, commissioned by Jim Crockett Promotions for NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair, and debuted on February 14, 1986.
  • Ric Flair holds the record for most reigns with the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at 8, while Hulk Hogan set the record for the longest single reign at 469 days following his 1994 win.
  • The Big Gold Belt physically represented the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from 1994 — when the WCW International and WCW World titles were unified — all the way through WCW's final episode in March 2001.
  • The WCW World Heavyweight Championship was officially retired on December 9, 2001, when it was unified with the WWF Championship; Chris Jericho was the title's final recognized champion.
